Push-fit plumbing fittings are hugely popular and are a credible and well-known alternative to more traditional fittings. The speed of connecting pipes is much quicker than other fittings and they work by simply pushing the pipe into the fitting to create a watertight seal. However, based on the quality of the material used for manufacturing them and the geometry they can have different efficient life spans, and in some cases, they can lose their function causing water leakage in systems where they are used as happened in Tehran while I was designing a water-saving showerhead for a company that manufactured rubber seals as well. I joined the team of engineers to redesign a push-fit seal that would last longer.
the goal of this, mostly, engineering project is to use Finite Element Analysis methods for optimizing the geometry of these seals in order to make them longer lasting and consequently avoid leakages in the sewage system.
The results of these studies were a newly introduced group of longer-lasting push-fit rubber seals in different sizes for different applications manufactured by Mehr Polymer Industries.
